Thor has had mostly good days in the week after neutering. His first three days were spent eating–well, overeating–and the fourth day he paid for that, becoming ill with the after-effects of his operation taking hold. But by the fifth day, he was thriving, chasing Siggy (our alpha) through the house and eating regularly again.

Thor is a smart kitty. He realized that air conditioning helps reduce the minor pains that he had been experiencing. Here’s a YouTube video showing what he has been doing.

He is eating well now and is even a little picky, favoring cooked chicken and turkey, tuna pouches in water, Churu broth, Temptation lickables and treats, and Purina One kitten chow.

We have an excellent veterinarian, Dr. Ricklets of All Pets Animal Hospital in Ames, Iowa, who performed the operation and who takes care of all our Maine Coons. We recommend her highly. Staff is great, too.

There has been some behavioral changes since Thor has been neutered. He is more loving with Freya. Instead of riding and wrestling her, he hugs her with his giant paws while she stiffens in fear of his bulk.

Imagine being 9-pound Freya being embraced by this would be bobcat. (We have a bobcat on our acreage and Thor will eventually be his size.)

This is the bobcat in our woods.

Here is Thor aspiring to be like this predator.

As a fawning cat daddy, I was worried about this operation because Thor is so athletic. But everything worked out just great. I bought pain medication but he didn’t need any.

Tomorrow it will be 7 days and we will start playing and jumping again. He has these large muscles, and we need to keep them occupied by playing games with his assortment of bug wands!
